Hi,

I got ” ORA-08104: this index object 4357688 is being online built or rebuilt ” error in index Rebuild.

Details of error are as follows.

SQL> ALTER INDEX MSDBA.TEST_INDEX REBUILD TABLESPACE MYTBS parallel 96;

ORA-08104: this index object 4357688 is being online built or rebuilt

 

 

 

ORA-08104

The ORA-08104: this index object is being online built or rebuilt error is related with the SMON Process is very slow during the cleaning up the index.

Bug 3805539 is related with the ORA-08104: this index object is being online built or rebuilt error.

Firstly check the object_id if it exists.

 

SQL> select obj# ,name from obj$ where OBJ#=4357688

OBJ#         NAME
---------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4357688     PK_TEST_INDEX

SQL>

 

Then to solve the ORA-08104: this index object is being online built or rebuilt error, run the dbms_repair.online_index_clean as follows.

 

SQL> declare
2 msd BOOLEAN;
3 begin
4 msd := dbms_repair.online_index_clean(4357688);
5 end;
6 /

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

SQL>

 

 

Now run Index rebuild again, it works fine as follows.

SQL> 
SQL> ALTER INDEX MSDBA.TEST_INDEX REBUILD TABLESPACE MYTBS parallel 96;

Index altered.

SQL>
