Hi,
Sometimes you can get ” ORA-01090: shutdown in progress – connection is not permitted ” error.
Details of error are as follows.
ORA-01090: shutdown in progress - connection is not permitted
Cause: The SHUTDOWN command was used to shut down a running ORACLE instance, so you cannot connect to ORACLE.
Action: Wait for the instance to be restarted, or contact your DBA.
SQL> shutdown immediate; ORA-24324: service handle not initialized ORA-24323: value not allowed ORA-01090: shutdown in progress - connection is not permitted
This errors means Oracle Instance is hang and shutdown process was still in progress, so run shutdown abort command, then start it up again.
Check the Oracle SID and Oracle Home, if they are Ok or not ?
[oracle@MSDBdbadm01:/home/oracle:> ORACLE_SID=INSTANCE_NAME [oracle@MSDBdbadm01:/home/oracle:> export ORACLE_SID [oracle@MSDBdbadm01:/home/oracle:> export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/product/12.2.0/dbhome_1 [oracle@MSDBdbadm01:/home/oracle:> sqlplus / as sysdba
shutdown abort the Instance then start it up again as follows.
SQL> shutdown abort SQL> startup
You can also kill the SMON or PMON process with kill -9 command as follows.
[MSDB1]/home/oracle $ ps -ef | grep smon root 258120 1 3 Mar25 ? 15:46:32 /u01/grid/bin/osysmond.bin grid 260699 1 0 Mar25 ? 00:00:30 asm_smon_+ASM1 oracle 291921 1 0 Mar28 ? 00:25:55 ora_smon_MSDB1 oracle 398955 215557 0 17:44 pts/5 00:00:00 grep smon [MSDB1]/home/oracle $ [MSDB1]/home/oracle $ kill -9 291921 [MSDB1]/home/oracle $
