SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory with SP2-0667: Message file sp1.msb not found | Set Oracle Home SID in Windows and Linux

Hi,

Sometimes You can get ” SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory with SP2-0667: Message file sp1<lang>.msb not found ” error.

 

Details of error are as follows.

E:\app\ebys_win\product\12.1.0\dbhome_1\BIN> sqlplus.exe
Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus
SP2-0667: Message file sp1<lang>.msb not found
SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory

 

 

This error is related with ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID in the Windows Environment, so you should set them properly as follows.

set ORACLE_HOME=E:\app\ebys_win\product\12.1.0\dbhome_1

set ORACLE_SID=MSDB

 

Or you can set ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID by right click on the My Computer > Advanced > Environment Variables. Click New under System variables. On the New System Variable tab, fill in the Variable name as ORACLE_HOME and Variable value with the location and Oracle SID NAME.

 

If your database is running on Linux or Unix, then you can add the following lines to the .bash_profile file.

bash-3.2$ vim .bash_profile

export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/product/12.2.0/dbhome_1
export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app
export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/OPatch:$PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib32
export LIBPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib32
export ORACLE_SID=MSDB

export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/OPatch:$PATH

 

and to set .bash_profile Run the following command.

bash-3.2$ . .bash_profile
