RMAN-06749: restore point string does not exist.

Hi,

Sometimes You can get “RMAN-06749: restore point string does not exist. ” error.

 

Details of error are as follows.

RMAN-06749: restore point string does not exist.
Cause: The specified restore point does not exists in v$restore_point table of the target database.
Action: Check the name of restore point and retry the command.

List all restore point as follows.
RMAN> list restore point all;

using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
SCN       RSP       Time   Type Time  Name
---------------- --------- ---------- --------- ----
68433432 GUARANTEED 26-APR-20 BEFORE_UPDATE

 

Run the flashback database to related restore point as follows.

 

RMAN> flashback database to restore point BEFORE_UPDATE;

Starting flashback at 29-APR-20
allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
channel ORA_DISK_1: SID=225 instance=MSDB1 device type=DISK

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of flashback command at 29/04/2020 13:03:42
RMAN-06749: restore point BEFORE_UPDATE does not exist.

 

Change restore point name as “BEFORE_UPDATE”.

 

RMAN> flashback database to restore point "BEFORE_UPDATE";

Starting flashback at 29-APR-20
using channel ORA_DISK_1
starting media recovery
media recovery complete, elapsed time: 00:00:03
Finished flashback at 29-APR-20

RMAN> alter database open resetlogs;

Problem has been solved.
