Hi,

Sometimes You can get “ORA-28003: password verification for the specified password failed, ORA-20002: Password same as or similar to user ” error.

 

ORA-28003: password verification for the specified password failed

Details of error are as follows.

ORA-28003: password verification for the specified password failed

Cause: The new password did not meet the necessary complexity specifications and the password_verify_function failed

Action: Enter a different password. Contact the DBA to know the rules for choosing the new password




SQL> create user mehmet identified by deveci;
create user mehmet identified by deveci profile system
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28003: password verification for the specified password failed
ORA-20002: Password same as or similar to user

 

ORA-20002: Password same as or similar to user

To solve this error, you should prefer the strong password which have one number and one alphanumeric character and one special character

SQL> create user mehmet identified by Deveci.63;

User created.

 

PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION

Or You can disable PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION and create the user with its weak password as follows.

SQL>select profile, resource_name, limit from dba_profiles where RESOURCE_NAME = 'PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION';
PROFILE                        RESOURCE_NAME                    LIMIT
------------------------------ -------------------------------- ----------------------------------------
DEFAULT                        PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION         VERIFY_FUNCTION_11G
SYSTEM                         PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION         VERIFY_FUNCTION_11G

 

 

Disable the PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION , then create the user.

SQL> alter profile default limit PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION null;

Profile altered.



SQL> create user mehmet identified by deveci;

User created.
