ORA-10636: ROW MOVEMENT is not enabled

Hi,

Sometimes You can get ” ORA-04060: insufficient privileges to execute string ” error.

 

Details of error are as follows.

ORA-10636: ROW MOVEMENT is not enabled



Cause: To shrink a data segment, row movement must be enabled.

Action: Enable row movement and reissue this command.


SQL> alter table MSDEVECI.TEST shrink space;
alter table MSDEVECI.TEST shrink space
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-10636: ROW MOVEMENT is not enabled

 

 

Row movement feature is mainly important for the partition tables. Rows can be moved across partitions with this feature. Normally any row cannot move with an update, because row movement is disabled default.

 

To solve this error, you need to enable row movement of related table.

 

You can enable the row movement as follows.

SQL> alter table TABLE_NAME enable row movement;
Table altered

SQL> alter table TABLE_NAME shrink space;
Table altered

 

You can disable the row movement as follows.

SQL> alter table TABLE_NAME disable row movement;

Table altered.
