ORA-00988: missing or invalid password(s)

I got ” ORA-00988: missing or invalid password(s) ”  error in Oracle database.

Details of error are as follows.

SQL> alter user msdba identified by '_#deveci%&';
alter user msdba identified by '_#deveci%&'
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00988: missing or invalid password(s)

missing or invalid password(s)

This ORA-00988 error is related to the missing or invalid password.

Check the password if the password is a Oracle keyword or password starts with a number or  password contains special characters  if it is not wrapped in double quotes, you will get this error.

To solve this error, you need to use password with wrapped in double quotes as follows.

SQL> alter user msdba identified by "_#deveci%&";

User altered.
