I got ” ORA-00971: missing SET keyword ”  error in Oracle database.

Details of error are as follows.

ORA-00971: Missing SET keyword.
 
Cause: The keyword SET in an UPDATE statement is missing, misspelled, or misplaced.

Action: Check syntax and spelling, and use the keyword SET after the name of the table to be updated.
UPDATE employee id = 1453;

This ORA-00971 error is related to the keyword SET in an UPDATE statement is missing, misspelled, or misplaced.

Check syntax and spelling, and use the keyword SET after the name of the table to be updated.

If you execute the update statement without SET keyword as follows, you will get this error.

UPDATE employee id = 1453;

To solve this error, you should use the SET keyword as follows.

UPDATE employee SET id = 1453;
