Storage Server or Cell Server in Oracle Exadata -1

Hi

I will explain What is the Storage Server in the Oracle Exadata in this article.

Exadata Storage Server was developed by Oracle to meet the needs of high-performance database, and Storage Server Software was developed and optimized to run Oracle database very well and perform some magic features with this software.

Cell Servers, which we call also Storage Server, play the most critical role for Exadata. Because This is the main Server for Exadata that perform the magic features such as Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC), Storage Index, Smart Scan (Query Offloading) and Smart Flash Cache & IORM.

Exadata Storage Software is the software that assists in optimizing together both hardware components and the Oracle Database to achieve the best possible performance. With this software, each Cell Server provides the best I / O performance and bandwidth to the database. Storage Server have not only Disks but also CPU, Memory like Compute Server in Exadata.

Storage Server also allows you to query hundreds of gigabytes of encrypted databases per second almost without any load on the database. This decryption process is performed with the Exadata Storage Server software. Exadata Storage Server  software and Intel processors on Storage Server provide encryption support for what we call Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).

The appearance of a High Capacity model Storage Server or Cell Server  is as follows.

The appearance of the Extreme Flash model Storage Server ( or High Performance ) or Cell Server is as follows.

There are 3 Storage servers in Exadata 1/8 and 1/4,   7 Storage servers in Exadata 1/2  and 14 Storage servers in Full exadata under normal circumstances .  There are 12 Disks for High Capacity and 8 Disks Extreme Flash slots in High Performance in each Cell Server or Storage Server.

Size of each disk is 10TB at High Capacity in the latest Exadata X7-2 While the previous Exadata X6-2 is 8TB. While the number of disks does not increase, the capacity and performance of the disks may increase.
