Exadata Database Machine -3 What is the Exadata and Why Exadata ?

Hi,

I will continue to explain Oracle Exadata database machine in this post.

Read previous article before this.

https://ittutorial.org/exadata-tutorial-x8-oracle-database-machine-2/

Exadata was sold  too much on the database market customers because of both consolidation and reducing licensing costs.

Before Exadata, There was no freespace on customers’ Datacenter when new Server and Storages have been bought if they didn’t make consolidation. After Exadata, customers have done consolidation and many databases was running on different physical database servers have migrated an Exadata database machine.

So  I have seen Exadata in many banks, insurance and telecommunication customers that I have been working .

The fact that more than one cabinet can be converted into a single cabinet will make room for both the Data center and reduce the electric and cooling costs. However, the most important part of the business is that it will reduce the licensing and hardware costs.

Just as I’ve tried to illustrate below, For Example; You can run 4 different databases  in one Exadata (in 1/4 configuration or in maximum 1/2 configuration) instead of 4 separate servers and storage.

In Exadata Consolidation, You can reduce Not only CPU, RAM, and disk savings but also administration cost . In the past, There was only DBAs, which we used to call Database Administrator, and administer only Oracle database. With Exadata,  Exadata DMA which we used to call Database machine Administrator, administers Both Servers and databases.

Exadata DMA is responsible for both the database management and the Linux system management as well as for the storage management. There are no need System administrator and Storage administrator for Exadata administration.

Before Exadata X5-2,  Exadata was licensed with Enterprise licenses and How many cores are there in the Physical Server. For example, in the 1/8 configuration of the X4-2 version, there were 24 Cores, while the license of this exadata was 24 Core.

Oracle has changed Exadata Licensing with the Exadata X5, now switched to the model that we call Capacity on Demand. Even though There were many Cores in the machines, you can now select from a minimum of 8 and use the Exadata with 8 Enterprise licences. You can increase Core count when you need.

With Capacity on Demand., Oracle is now able to sell to small and medium sized companies. Although it seems to be successful as a sales strategy, I recommend the following Oracle Database Appliance to my customers in small-scale organizations, not Exadata.
