I will explain Alter session set current_schema for Switching to a Different Schema in Oracle in this post.

Alter session set current_schema

When you run any SQL Statement, you can get the following error.

ORA-02421 missing or invalid schema authorization identifier.

SQL> select count(*) from employees;
select count(*) from employees
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist

Setting Default Schema in Oracle

If you run any SQL statements which schema is different and object name is used without Schema name, you can get this error.

To solve this error, you should change current_schema to tables owner schema as follows.

ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = <schema name>

ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = MEHMET;
ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = SCOOT;
ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = MSDBA;

Then you can run any sql statement without Schema name as follows.

ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = HR;

SQL> select count(*) from employees;

COUNT(*)
----------
106

SQL>
